Traditionally law firms divide themselves up into disciplinary departments. A few years ago I physically moved into the corporate department. Now we have all disciplines together hearing each other’s advice and discussions.
There has not been a single day when this has not led to improved advice. Either a colleague knows something about the client you are advising, has read something relevant in the sector, or has another angle due to their different expertise. As we don’t record time, we can freely spend the time to share ideas.
I would go further and say that if I found myself now surrounded by employment lawyers only, I would know that my advice would often be incomplete.
